Jet James
Artist | Professional | Traditional Art
Australia
Hailing originally from Perth, Jet James has become a recognizable figure in the arts industry. His birth to an artist father and mother, who had close links to the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Burdon and Michael Hutchence, seem like fitting beginnings for Jet's career in the spotlight.

Tragically, Jet lost both his parents in separate accidents at a very young age. The time that ensued led to periods of isolation in some of the most remote areas of Australia where he studied via the School of the Air. These times of solitude saw him throwing himself into his art and honing his skills through the mass of work he produced, while also allowing his own style to develop with the lack of outside influence. By the age of 16, Jet was left to complete his secondary schooling on his own. He worked and even managed to sell some paintings while putting himself through high school, even though at times he was, by definition, homeless. After completing year 12, Jet travelled to sunny Central Queensland and commenced study in Visual Art. He has won awards and exhibited regularly and sold work directly and internationally via online marketing.

Jet lives and breathes art in an almost literal sense and his work reflects his traditional beliefs as well as his modern thinking. These contrasts of thinking are seen in his work by his use a variety of mediums and application methods. His current, preferred domain is that of printmaking, which may be better suited to satisfy his preference for the avant-garde creative process.

Current Residence: Australia
Favourite style of art: Expressionist
Interests
I was recently accepted into the Flying Arts Award for 2011. A major award for regional queensland. My work "into the wilderness" can be voted for online, for the peoples choice award, a prize of $750 in art supplies .  [link]

Biography

Jet James has a Diploma in Visual Communication from the Central Queensland Institute Tafe. He was awarded the 2008 Central Queensland Vocational Student of the year and state finalist through the National Training awards. James's recent achievements include, 2008 Youth Self Portrait Prize, short listed at the National Portrait gallery of Australia, 2008 Charles Ware Award- National Young Artist Award at the Rockhampton Regional Gallery.

Statement

This work evolved using the technique of collagraphy. There is an exploration in materials and a surface tension when layered in a spontaneous and intuitive manner. James provides a topographical interpretation of identity in a disposable society. The human form embodies the landscape, as the artist searches and maps out feelings from the subconscious, and in its manner the connection between land and consumerism are contemplated.

Thanks man, glad you stopped by. Congrats to you too!
I love collagraphy. I tend to convert my matrices into digital plates but there's something homogeneous about the entire printmaking process anyway.

So yeah, cool to see ya around.
